Albert Luthuli was a deeply committed Christian. He was also a Zulu chief and leader of the African National Congress and the people of South Africa in their resistance against racial prejudice and the injustice of Apartheid. Imprisoned for resisting the regime, he was later restrained under several banning orders before returning to his home in Groutville, Zululand.
The Biblical worldview that informed Chief Luthuli’s determined stand against oppression was the fruit of the Christian heritage he received from his forebears who were taught by the missionaries that laid the foundation of religious instruction, literacy and education of the Zulu people of Natal.
